Our religious leaders are not interested in environment

We are supposed to be believing that God resides in every living being. We worship trees, rivers, animals, etc. But Himalaya is coming down, our rivers are all polluted to the extent that they resemble dirty drains. But except much hyped Nirmal Ganga Abhiyan we do not hear much from religious leaders about our polluted rivers. Swami Nigamanand protested against vested interests harming Ganga and sacrificed his life. No body was moved by his sacrifice. Ganga remains polluted with all the illegal activities going on along its banks. Only during kumbh  the  religious leaders wanted clean ganga water for their bathing. There were reports of installation of ultra modern machines at some religious leaders’ camp churning pure Ganga water for devotees for a price. As far as the common people were concerned they managed  with polluted Ganga and Yamuna water. Many of our religious festivals also increase environmental pollution. Neither our Religious leaders nor the social elite seems to be worried about the increasing use of polluting items during these festivals. Contrary to that His Holiness Dalai Lama and Tibetans outside Tibet are constantly raising the issues of Tibetan environment before the international community. They are trying to  convince all those who they think can help about the need to protect Tibetan environment not only for Tibetans but  also for the neighbouing countries. They are always vigilant. China’s plans to use the lakes worshipped by Tibetan Buddhists for commercial purposes are resisted with full might. At the same time, China’s  uninterrupted propaganda against His Holiness Dalai Lama  is ignored. While China does no loose an opportunity to call names to His Holiness Dalai Lama the Tibetans bear their hurt gracefully and try to engage China in resolving Tibetans’ outstanding issues. Tibetans in Tibet are for quite some time immolating themselves as a protest against China’s disrespectful attitude towards His Holiness Dalai Lama.
